Janna Pelle: Creativity with Every Key

Janna Pelle may have out done herself with her latest album, “Key Change”, a concept album taking all who listen on a trip though the evolution and history of the piano from harpsichord to synthesizer. Janna is a classically trained pianist and incredible DIY pop music singer/performer straight out of Brooklyn, New York. Her beautiful voice and incredible on-stage theatrics might just make her Brooklyn’s next big thing. Combining elements of rock, soul, and dance into her live performances, Janna has the potential to make some real big waves in alternative-pop scene, comparable to that of her influences, Fiona Apple and Lady Gaga.

The concept behind Janna’s “Key Change” shows the extent of both her originality and creativity.   In this album Janna demonstrates the timelessness of pop music and the evolution of the piano by performing each song on a different keyboard instrument (harpsichord, harmonium, Wurlitzer, organ, synthesizer, etc). My favorite songs are “Sleep Tonight” and “Favorite Customer”, each performed flawlessly and have a commercial/radio-ready sound. Janna’s vocals are beautifully recorded and mixed, creating nothing short of a professionally produced masterpiece.

Janna is highly influenced by iconic artists such as Lady Gaga, Fiona Apple, David Byrne, Billy Joel, and Elton John. Her passion for music began at an early age but her singing and songwriting career started in college with her band “Janna and the Half-Steps”. Her style has changed a lot since then and she plans to continue evolving her sound. Janna was inspired to write the album “Key Change” after she had read David Byrne’s book, “How Music Works”, as the main focus of the book is on how music has changed due the the spaces it is designed to be performed in.

Janna recently released her music video for the first single off of Key Change, “City Life,” collaborating with virally-famous body paint artist, Trina Merry, curating musical playlists as the musical director of Skipping Club, a alternative-exercise group that has been recognized by The New York Times and Fox, and is also the leader of “The Floorchestra” music time at the world’s first-ever adult preschool, Preschool Mastermind.
